Gas fitting is one of the most safety-critical trades in the plumbing industry. Improperly installed or maintained gas systems can cause carbon monoxide poisoning, fire, or explosion. In New South Wales, all gas work (from connecting a cooktop to installing a gas line) must be performed by a licensed gas fitter and certified with a compliance certificate. It is illegal for an unlicensed person to do gas work, and the consequences of non-compliant work range from voided home insurance to serious danger.
Natural gas and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) each have different properties that affect how they’re piped and connected. Natural gas is lighter than air and will rise and disperse, while LPG is heavier than air and can pool at ground level, making leaks more dangerous in enclosed or low-lying areas. Our gas fitters are trained and licensed for both types and understand the specific safety requirements, pipe sizing, regulator settings, and ventilation standards for each.
Every gas job we complete follows the same protocol: assess the existing installation, isolate the gas supply if there’s a safety concern, complete the work using approved materials to Australian Standards (AS/NZS 5601), perform a pressure test to confirm the system is gas-tight, and issue a compliance certificate before we leave. The compliance certificate is a legal document that proves the work was done by a licensed person, tested to standard, and is safe. You should keep it for your records. Insurers and future buyers may request it.
For gas leak emergencies, we aim to be on-site within 30 minutes. Our plumbers carry gas detection equipment, isolation tools, and repair materials. We isolate the leak immediately, identify the source, repair it, pressure test the system, and issue your certificate. If you smell gas, the correct action is to leave the property immediately without operating any electrical switches, and call us from outside. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for gas emergencies.

Questions We Get Asked
- What should I do if I smell gas?
- Leave the property immediately. Do not turn on or off any light switches, appliances, or electrical devices. Do not use your phone inside. Go outside, then call us. We respond to gas emergencies 24/7 and aim to be on-site within 30 minutes. If the smell is very strong, also call 1800 GAS LEAK (1800 427 532).
- Do I need a compliance certificate for gas work?
- Yes. NSW law requires a compliance certificate for all gas work. It proves the work was done by a licensed gas fitter and tested to Australian Standards. We issue one on every job as standard. Keep it. Your insurer or a future buyer may request it.
- Can you connect a new gas cooktop or oven?
- Yes. Our licensed gas fitters routinely connect new cooktops, ovens, wall ovens, and freestanding stoves. We connect the appliance, test for leaks, pressure test the line, and issue your compliance certificate.
- Do you install BBQ and outdoor kitchen gas points?
- Yes. We install permanent gas bayonet points for BBQs, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and patio heaters. Natural gas and LPG. This eliminates the need for gas bottles and gives you a reliable, continuous gas supply outdoors.
- Can you convert from LPG to natural gas?
- Yes. We do complete LPG-to-natural-gas conversions including pipework modification, appliance jet and regulator changes, new meter connection coordination, pressure testing, and compliance certification. This is common when natural gas becomes available in your street.
- Are your gas fitters licensed?
- Yes. Every gas job is performed by a gas fitter holding a current NSW Fair Trading licence. We carry full public liability and workers’ compensation insurance. We can provide our licence number on request.
- What is carbon monoxide and why is it dangerous?
- Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odourless, colourless gas produced by incomplete combustion of natural gas or LPG. It’s extremely dangerous because you can’t see or smell it. Symptoms of exposure include headache, dizziness, nausea, and confusion. Poorly maintained gas heaters, blocked flues, and inadequate ventilation are common causes. Regular servicing of gas appliances is the best prevention.
- How much does gas fitting cost in Sydney?
- We provide a fixed quote before starting. Simple connections (like a gas cooktop) are at the lower end, while running new gas lines or doing full LPG-to-natural-gas conversions cost more. There’s no call-out fee and no hidden charges. You know the price before we begin.
- Do gas appliances need regular servicing?
- Yes. Gas appliances should be serviced every two years as recommended by Energy Safe Victoria and NSW Fair Trading. Servicing checks for carbon monoxide leaks, burner efficiency, flue integrity, and ventilation adequacy. It’s especially important for gas heaters, hot water systems, and older appliances.
- Can you install a gas line for a new build or renovation?
- Yes. We install new gas lines for renovations, extensions, and new builds. We work with builders and project managers to coordinate gas rough-in and final connection. All work is to AS/NZS 5601 and fully certified.
